We are privileged to have this beautiful early Elan in our showrooms. Known low ownership history from new, with a single owner from 1964 to 2015. This type 26 Elan is the earliest known example to have a Lotus produced body instead of the Bourne manufactured bodies.
It has undergone extensive sympathetic restoration work, including a full £10,000 body restoration and repaint in 2020 in its original colour. The interior, boot area and engine bay are original. The history folder contains various large invoices, ownership history and detailed photographic record of the body restoration.
The Series 1 type 26 Elans started production in January 1963 until September 1964 when it was replaced by the S2. This example was manufactured in December 1963 and registered in January 1964.
The engine was removed and used in a speedboat by the original owner and a Pre Crossflow Ford engine was in the car when sold in 2015.
The car had a new galvanised chassis in 2002.
Purchased by the current owner in 2017 and recommissioned by Paul Matty Sports Cars with Tony Thompson Racing fast road suspension and driveshafts and a rebuilt 2.97 gearbox.
An original Elan engine was rebuilt to fast road (122 BHP) spec and fitted in 2017. The block has covered 4000 miles. An early cylinder head was rebuilt and fitted with correct Weber DCOE2 Carbuettors approximately 1000 miles ago. The engine bay is immaculate.
June 2020, full body restoration and bare gelcoat repaint in the cars original colour. New seals and hard top fitted. The paintwork is stunning.
This is one of the finest early/ heritage Lotus cars we have ever had on site
