Morgan restorations

As a Morgan main dealer since 1966, we have huge amounts of experience in restoring Morgans. From full nut and bolt restorations to 'recommissioning' type work after an extended period of storage, we can assist with all Morgan restoration projects. The photos on this page show a number of different Morgans undergoing restoration.

Replacing a chassis is a straightforward, albeit time-consuming, job on a Morgan and this often forms the starting point for the restoration work. During stripdown the ash frame can be assessed - most of it can't be seen when body panels are in place. Some cars require complete new frames, others are in remarkably good condition with only the odd new section of wood needed.

Most Morgans have steel wings and body, but some will have aluminium - both metals can and do corrode and need attention. We take a view on an individual car as to whether panels can or should be repaired, or need complete replacement.

Engines are stripped down as required and assessed. Most engine work we will do in-house, only contracting major items of machining, e.g. cylinder rebores or crankshaft regrinding. If the gearbox and/or rear axle need overhaul, we will normally put this in the direction of a specialist as this is usually the quickest and most cost effective route to take.

Key to obtaining a top quality paint finish is excellent preparation of the bodywork -  ensuring any corrosion is fully removed, other defects addressed and panels primed and flattened as many times as necessary before the top, colour coats are applied. Some cars will have a bare metal respray, other Morgans where the original paintwork and body panels are in reasonable condition, won't require this level of preparation.

On return from the paintshop, the final jobs in our Workshop will be fitting lights, brightwork and ancillary equipment. Once this is complete, the Morgan then goes into our Trimshop for the final part of the restoration project , retrimming the interior and manufacturing and fitting a hood and other 'weather equipment' as required.
